Suicide Bombing in Dera Ismail Khan After Border Clash
The claim of responsibility is not the surprise. At least 11 people were killed when a suicide bomber set off an explosives-laden vehicle at a roadside police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan, in the country’s northwest. [1] The timing is what stands out. The bombing came two days after fighting between Pakistan and Afghanistan along their southwestern border killed at least 13 members of the Afghan Taliban.

Around 30 others were wounded, mostly security personnel and passersby, according to a police official. [1]
Emergency teams from Rescue 1122, a Punjab/Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government emergency ambulance and rescue service, provided medical assistance to the wounded and took them to hospital, the service said. [1] Police said some of the injured were in critical condition.
Dera Ismail Khan sits in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province of Pakistan that runs along the border with Afghanistan. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group that targets the Pakistani state, claimed responsibility for the attack.
